Day Twenty-One
Here we are, the last three days of production. And today seems to be a pick-up day. And no, I am not talking about using another vehicle (truck!). We are at previous locations where we didn’t finish shooting the scenes we needed to. So now, here we are …
.
The first one is in Lockhart, once again recreating the 1959 gas station (Berry’s). Luckily, we only need a small piece of that location to wrap this up. If you recall, we didn’t finish that day (Day 5) when we were here before, so we gotta git it!
Thom (Frank), Brody (Young Dylan), and Matthew (Young Dan) are here to put the finishing touches on this scene’s performance, as a little familial violence is involved here. Jeff, our stunt coordinator, is once again here to make sure everyone is safe.
Then we move on to Two Wishes Ranch again, and actually not finish a scene we started but didn’t finish, but to reshoot it entirely. The lighting and the weather are way too different (no matching), so we have to start from scratch.
Time for some of us to get in the cold pond; Don (Dylan) and Jennifer (Mariah) pulling off their performances with teeth almost chattering. They were great!
And yes, we had some crew get in with them, but I think they had a little more protection against the chilly water. If not, hey, they’re here to tough it out.
Near Two Wishes we went out to the highway to get some cool drone shots. Since this scene is not set in the present, it was a bit dicey timing out shots without any other more modern cars in them (we didn’t have control of the highway). It took a bit but we got it. And yes, it involved a vehicle once again, but all good.
We finished the evening with a couple night convertible shots, one new and another a piece of a previous shot. Two days to go …
Day Twenty-Two
Sshhh, it’s a secret … as we escape to St. Elmo Soundstage in Austin for the whole day.
Why a secret? Difficult to describe this scene without giving away something important to the story.
Basically we are inside Dylan’s head as he is meditating, and no telling what the hell might be in there, or what we might stumble over. ‘Nuff said.
I knew conceptually what I wanted, but I have to admit we were winging it some of the time. We tried a few different things and actually we shot quite a bit. So I am pretty sure we got plenty to work with in the edit. There will also be some added visual effects to enhance the feel of it.
One day to go … as we head down to Matagorda Bay on the coast tonight, to get ourselves ready to shoot the final scene tomorrow. Hooray! And yes, once again it involves a vehicle, ha.
Jerry Alden Deal
Writer - Director - Producer
Over the past thirty-five years Jerry has been hired numerous times to develop and write screenplays for other production companies. During that same period several of his spec scripts were also optioned. In 2007 ‘Dreams Awake,’ shot in the Mt. Shasta area, was Jerry’s feature directorial debut. He currently has several other projects in various stages of development. One of which, ‘The Inner Sonic Key,’ a documentary, is in the post-production queue, while another, ‘One Hand Clapping,’ wrapped production in Austin, TX in April of last year (2018) and is currently in post-production. Two other projects are also on the horizon; ‘Patterns of Creation,’ an animated sci-fi adventure going through an extensive script rewrite, and ‘The God Dilemma’, an unorthodox courtroom drama, whose story is being fleshed out.
